Turmeric Golden Paste For Dogs (And People!)

Extreme Closeup of Turmeric Powder Macro Texture ** Note: Soft Focus at 100%, best at smaller sizes

Turmeric golden paste is fed to dogs to reduce inflammation, improve their digestive health, increase the antioxidant capacity of the body, improve liver function, improve brain function, lower the risk of heart disease, help prevent cancer, and reduce the risk of developing hip dysplasia.

Not only can your dogs reap these benefits, but turmeric golden paste is also beneficial to people for all of the same reasons. (See dosage below.)

Recipe:

1/2 cup organic turmeric powder

1 cup filtered water

1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground organic black pepper

1/4 cup organic cold pressed coconut oil (no oil should be added if making for dogs)

Directions:

Start by mixing turmeric and water in a pan. Stir on low heat for 7-10 minutes. Once the turmeric and water form a paste turn the heat off and add pepper and coconut oil. Stir until the oil no longer separates from the paste.

Allow the mixture to cool before storing in the refrigerator. Golden paste keeps for 2-3 weeks, then begins to lose its potency.

Feeding Golden Paste To Your Dog:

Start by mixing small doses in with your dog’s meals (about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. depending on your dog’s size). Slowly increase the dosage to approximately 15 to 20 mg per pound of body weight. An easier way to measure this is to feed 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per day, for every 10lbs of weight.

Make sure your pet has lots of water to ensure that they don’t get constipated or dehydrated.

Taking Golden Paste Yourself:

There is no exact dosage for golden paste. Each individual will need a different amount to feel the benefits. Start by taking 1/4 tsp. three times a day with meals. Increase dosages slowly until you feel reduced pain and improved digestion. Talk with your doctor before starting turmeric as it doesn’t mix well with medications.

Disclaimer: Turmeric is a blood thinner so you must tell your vet that your dog is taking it in the case of an emergency. When preparing for a surgery stop giving turmeric beforehand. Contact your veterinarian for professional advice on how far ahead of time to stop giving the supplement. It is not recommended to give turmeric along with any drugs or medications. Some dogs are sensitive to turmeric so increase dosage slowly.
